Can I hear a notation score without opening the score editor?
Yes, since version 2.8: in the song view, tap the blue play button next to the pink one. A bar with tempo, metronome, count-in and a mixer appears, and the pages follow the music. See Playing the scores.
I have a folder full of PDFs. Do I have to make every song by hand?
No, since version 2.7: choose "PDFs as New Songs…" in the Library's import menu (on iPhone in the ••• menu). LeadSheets reads the title and artist from each PDF, also from scans, and splits songbooks into songs. Check the list and tap Import. See Importing PDFs as new songs.
A file opens without the latest changes. What can I do?
Update every device to LeadSheets 2.6.1 or later: it saves the file complete in one piece, so iCloud can't deliver it half. Each file is fixed the first time it's saved with 2.6.1. If a file still opens incomplete, remove its download in the Files app (or Finder) and open it again, so iCloud fetches it fresh.
Can I copy songs from one LeadSheets file to another?
Yes, since version 2.6.1: use "From Another LeadSheets File…" in the import menu above Library or Setlists (on iPhone in the ••• menu). See Exporting and Sharing.
Can LeadSheets show guitar or bass tab?
Yes, since version 2.6. In the score editor, open Instruments and set the instrument's Tab to Notation + Tab or Tab only, with its tuning and capo. LeadSheets works out the strings and frets, and you can move a note to another string with ⌥⇧↑ / ⌥⇧↓. See Tab.
The wrong recording plays for a song. What can I do?
Since version 2.6, LeadSheets matches the recording on title and artist, so check that the song's artist is filled in. When several recordings fit, choose one in the list that appears, or later with the recordings button in the player.
Can I write one score for the whole band?
Yes, since version 2.5. In the score editor, open Instruments and add the band's instruments; link each one to a musician. Every musician then sees only their own part in the song view, and the full score can be printed with all parts. See Full scores and Parts and full score.
The recording isn't tuned like our band. Can I fix that?
Yes, since version 2.5, for songs that play inside LeadSheets. Set the recording's tuning with the tuning fork in the player bar, and the A your band tunes to in Settings → Tuning.
Can I turn pages with a foot pedal?
Yes, since version 2.2. Pair a Bluetooth or USB page-turn pedal (PageFlip, AirTurn and others) with your device, then choose 2 or 4 buttons in Settings → Page-Turn Pedal. It turns pages in every song view and moves to the next song in a setlist. See Page-turn pedal.
How do I write notes with Apple Pencil?
On iPad, open a notation score and tap the pencil button above the score. Draw notes, rests, accidentals, ties and bar lines; they are entered when you pause. Tap ? next to the pencil button for the list of gestures, or see Writing with Apple Pencil.
How do I put a repeat sign in the middle of a bar?
Put the cursor where the repeat goes and choose split in the palette's Repeats group. Then put the end repeat at the end of the first part and the start repeat at the start of the second. See Bars, repeats and layout.
Which devices does LeadSheets run on?
iPhone, iPad and Mac. On iPad, Apple Pencil can annotate PDF scores and, since version 2.1, write notes straight into notation scores.
How do I share songs with my band?
Open a setlist, tap the Share icon and choose "Export Data (.bandset)". Bandmates who import the file get all songs, chords, PDFs and notation scores. See Exporting and Sharing.
Because your LeadSheets files are stored in iCloud, you can also share them with iCloud collaboration: share the file or folder from iCloud Drive (in the Files app, or Finder on Mac) and invite your bandmates. Everyone then works with the same files, and changes appear for the whole band.
Why are Key and Speed greyed out?
They only work for songs that play inside LeadSheets: songs you bought that are downloaded on your device (on Mac: in your Music library). Songs that are only in iCloud, Apple Music copies and Spotify play in their own app. See Audio Playback.
Can I use scores from MuseScore, Finale or Sibelius?
Yes. Export the score there as MusicXML, then use "Import MusicXML" in the Song Editor. You can also export LeadSheets notation scores as MusicXML.
Where are my songs stored?
On your device, or in your own iCloud account if you use iCloud syncing. Nothing is sent to us. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I back up my library?
In the Library, open the ••• menu and choose Export Library. Use Import Songs to bring them back.
